Becky Shasta Daisy
Leucanthemum superbum 'Becky'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 4a-9b  Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

In our gardens here in north-central Georgia, ‘Becky' is the longest blooming and one of the most heat tolerant of the Shasta Daisy varieties. This is why it received the honor of Perennial of the Year in 2003. From mid- to late-summer, Becky produces an abundance of large daisies with pure-white petals surrounding a golden-yellow eye. The flowers aren't only pretty, they also attract butterflies and, because they are held high above the foliage on string and sturdy stems, are excellent for cutting and use in indoor floral arrangements.

Landscape & Garden Uses

The Becky Daisy grows well in landscape and garden beds and containers. Growing 18-36 inches tall with flower stems rising up to 3 feet, and spreading to form a clump 2 to 3 feet wide, Becky Daisy is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and large mixed container gardens. It is truly breathtaking in groupings or mass plantings in sunny landscape or woodland borders and perennial gardens. A fine addition to butterfly, cut flower, cottage and white color theme gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  18" for mass plantings

Cultural Preferences

Becky Daisy is very easy to grow in most any well-drained but moist soil in full sun or part shade. In the deep South plants would prefer a break from the hot, direct sun during the mid-afternoon hours. Provide at least 5 hours of direct sun for best flowering. As with many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Heavy, dense clay soils should be amended with organic matter to improve drainage.
