Special Attributes

When we first saw the name 'Baby' in the name, we thought it referred to a smaller size. But the Baby Blue Colorado Spruce is anything but a dwarf, growing upwards of 50 feet in height and 20 feet wide at maturity. Instead, 'Baby Blue' was named for its appealing soothing, light silvery-blue foliage that is sure to make a statement in your landscape, year round. With dense and stout branches on a stately, upright pyramidal form, Baby Blue is tree of magnificent beauty that deserves a spot in every landscape where it will grow, and that has the space!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 40 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 25 feet wide, with a distinctive color and refined pyramidal form, the Baby Blue Colordao Spruce is ideal for use as a focal point specimen in the landscape. Its dense and pyramidal form make for an excellent outdoor Christmas tree. Where space allows it can be planted in groupings of 3 or more and is also a colorful and textural addition to privacy screen plantings. Can also be useful to frame the corners of tall homes and other buildings, or entryways. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. A very welcome addition to the conifer garden, wildlife garden, and Xeriscape (low water needs).

Spacing:  15-18 feet apart for privacy screens; 30 feet apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

It is adaptable to most soils however does not like constantly soggy soils, which can be problematic. Dry or consistently damp to moist but well-drained soils are preferred.
