'Stella de Oro' Daylily
Hemerocallis 'Stella De Oro'

Special Attributes

Winner of many awards, 'Stella de Oro' is probably the most popular Daylily of all time and considered by many the finest Daylily ever. Why? Because it keeps on blooming for months producing up to 400 magnificent, rich golden-yellow trumpets on a single mature plant. But the great attributes don't stop there. Hardy, permanent, and easy to grow, we've been growing the Stella De Oro Daylily since 1990 and have never seen a speck of rust on them.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to about 15 inches tall and gradually spreading to form a 24 inch wide neat clump, Stella de Oro is perfect for use in stunning mass plantings or as a low border edger along walkways and paths. It's grassy texture and many blooms add both textural and color interest to mixed container gardens.

Companions: In garden beds or containers, we like to combine the Stella de Oro Daylily with other long-blooming plants that attract hummingbirds such as salvias, hummingbird plant (Dicliptera suberecta), hummingbird mints (Agastache), butterfly bushes (Buddleia) and hardy lantanas.

Theme Gardens: If you're looking to create a theme garden Stella de Oro Daylily is ideal for use in butterfly gardens, yellow color gardens, container gardens, cottage gardens, flower gardens, hanging basket gardens, daylily gardens, perennial gardens, wildlife gardens, and to add touches of bright flower color to ornamental grass gardens.

Cultural Preferences

When planted right and in the right spot, Stella de Oro Daylily is exceptionally easy to grow. Though daylilies will perform well in a wide range of soil types and conditions, they prefer a well-drained moist soil of average fertility. Sun to mostly sun is preferred, though some filtered sun or shade is tolerated. for best performance, we suggest at least 4 hours of direct sunlight or all day lightly filtered sun. Daylilies don't require deadheading but the removal of spent flower scapes (stems) help to encourage and enhance rebloom. Daylilies are tolerant of drought but will appreciate and perform their best when provided an occasional deep soaking during prolonged periods of drought.

Beautiful plants
This company is wonderful. They did not have my right size of the Stella de Oro dylily plants so they sent the larger ones at no extra charge. Packing was fantastic and they are now beginning to bloom. I recommend them as the best nursery I have dealt with and that has been a bunch. --------- WBG Reply: Hi Mary Ann - Thanks so much for your compliments and taking the time to provide your review. It makes everything we do at Wilson Bros Gardens even more worthwhile! Glad to hear you're getting to see the Stella de Oro's bloom this soon after planting. Daylilies don't require pruning, however, I always prune the spent flower scapes (stems)...doing so seems to encourage heavier rebloom. You might already know this but thought I'd mention it for others who might read this. Let us know if there's ever anything else we can help you with. We're at your service! - Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
