Special Attributes

Originally discovered in 1935 growing in a garden called Lynwood located in Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Lynwood Gold is a vigorous, heavy-blooming forsythia noted for its spectacular late winter to early spring bloom of  larger-than-usual bright yellow flowers. Thes flowers literally cover the branches with bloom before the new spring foliage emerges. The willowy green foliage emerges after the bloom cycle and is attractive throughout the season, turning purple in fall. Give this forsythia plenty of room to grow as it can spread to 9 feet in width.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to about 6-10 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide, Lynwood Gold Forsythia is a beautiful accent as a specimen or in groupings in mixed flowering shrub borders or foundation plantings. Also useful as a natural hedge and grouped or massed on embankments for beauty and erosion control. Also a welcome addition to sunny cut flower and perennial gardens.

Cultural Preferences

Forsythia is exceptionally easy to grow. It is adaptable to most any average soil, preferring a loose, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun is preferred however plants will tolerate some light shade. Does not require pruning, however responds well to it for shaping purposes or low hedges. Prune immediately after flowering.
