If you're looking for a unique Hosta to light up the shady areas of your gardens look no further. The blue, green, and golden variegated leaves of June Hosta emerge in spring followed by it's lavender summer flowers held by stalks that rise well above the foliage. We've grown and planted a lot of Hosta in our gardens over the years and June is definitely one of the top eye catchers of all.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a dense mound 12-18 inches tall and up to 30 inches wide with outstanding color and texture, June Hosta is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, massed as a groundcover (deciduous) or as a border along walkways and paths to light up fully to partially shaded gardens and landscape borders. June has been so reliable and such a strong performer for us that we have no problem at all recommending it for front home foundation plantings. It is perfect under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don't think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home.

June Hosta can also be grown solitary or mixed with other shade loving perennials in container gardens and is a great choice for mixed hosta, hummingbird gardens, and adding a bright splash of color to the woodland or woodland border garden.

Cultural Preferences

June Hosta adapts well to many soil types but prefers a moist, well drained soil of average fertility. It prefers the shade, and will practically grow in the dark, so is perfect for planting under tall decks and large shade trees where not much sun shines. That said, it will tolerate morning sun, and well or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade. Hot afternoon sun can scald the leaves, especially in warmer climates.
